Removal of DNS A records for mail routing suffixes 10 February 2010

Removal of DNS A records for mail routing suffixes

This announcement concerns only managers of MTA (Mail Transfer Agents: sendmail, postfix etc.) and applications sending anonymous mail from the CERN network.

Date of the intervention

On Wednesday 10-Feb-2010

During that day the DNS 'A' records will be removed for the following DNS names used as mail routing suffixes:

  • mail.cern.ch
  • listbox.cern.ch
  • cernxchg.cern.ch

Managers of MTA located on the CERN network should make sure their MTA are configured with smart host 'cernmx.cern.ch'.

Applications needing to send anonymous mail from the CERN network should also make sure they use 'cernmx.cern.ch' as the anonymous SMTP server.

Note that this does not affect in any way the delivery of mail to addresses

@mail.cern.ch

@listbox.cern.ch

@cernxchg.cern.ch

since mail delivery uses DNS 'MX' records instead.
